Our name comes from the Mwenje River area in Zimbabwe which includes the Mwenje Dam. It is located in the Mazoe district. Our first Ridgebacks were from Ann Chamberlain who uses the kennel name "Mazoe". Also translated from the Shona language, Mwenje has several meanings including "a brilliant light, a blaze, and passion." The Mwenje tree or Sneezewort tree is used to make musical instruments. Many of our puppy names come from music.
We have owned Ridgebacks since 1995. We are members of RRCUS, a few local dog clubs and an AKC Breeder of Merit. We do full health testing as outlined by RRCUS as well as the RRCUS recommended screenings. We abide by ALL RRCUS rules and ethics.
We only breed litters occasionally. Please visit www.rrcus.org to learn about Ridgebacks. Do NOT believe everything you read, do your homework. Bad breeders, backyard breeders, and puppy millers will say anything to get you to buy their puppies....after all they are breeding just for money. PLEASE do not buy a puppy from a breeder who has done no health testing on the parents!
WE BREED TO THE RIDGEBACK STANDARD! From the RRCUS website Size, Proportion, Substance: A mature Ridgeback should be symmetrical in outline, slightly longer than tall but well balanced. Dogs: 25 to 27 inches in height; Bitches: 24 to 26 inches in height. Desirable weight: Dogs: 85 pounds; Bitches: 70 pounds.
Please also check with the Ridgeback rescue groups http://www.rrus.org/ or http://www.ridgebackrescue.org/ or with breeders in your area. There are always good dogs in need.
